10 Performances That'll Make You Subscribe to the MDA Telethon's YouTube Channel Just to See What's Added Next
If you grew up in the ‘70s and ‘80s (and both before and beyond, since it started in 1966 and continued into the 2010s), then you remember Jerry Lewis hosting the annual MDA Telethon, where a ridiculous variety of artists would turn up and perform. You never knew who was going to show up and you never knew what they were going to do, which meant that there were times where you’d be tempted to just turn it on and watch it for as long as you could stay awake, lest you miss someone interesting and/or insane.
As such, I’ve been appropriately stunned and amazed by the variety of performances that have been added to the MDA Telethon’s official YouTube channel over the past few years, and with today’s addition of Lainie Kazan singing the Kiki Dee Band’s “I’ve Got the Music in Me,” I decided it was high time that I spotlighted the channel and give you an idea of what you’ve been missing.
1. Harry Chapin, “Cat’s in the Cradle”
2. Rick Springfield, “Jessie’s Girl”
3. Oingo Boingo, “We Close Our Eyes” / “Not My Slave”
4. Andy Williams, “Copacabana (At the Copa)”
5. Jerry Orbach doing songs from Chicago as Billy Flynn
6. A Roller-Skating Duo Performing a Routine to Barbra Streisand’s “The Main Event / Fight”
