Interview: Adam F. Goldberg, Bill Barretta, and Jeff Yorkes (THE MUPPETS MAYHEM)

Anyone who’s followed my work on the A.V. Club over the years knows that I became a fan of The Goldbergs straight out of the gate and happily reviewed it on a weekly basis. Well, mostly happily. Sometimes having to tackle reviews of The Middle and The Goldbergs back to back could make for a very, very long evening…and into the early hours of the morning. Still, the point is that I loved the show, and since it came from the mind of a gentleman by the name of Adam F. Goldberg, it’s no wonder that he and I hit it off as well. As such, when I heard that he was part of the creative team for the new Disney+ series The Muppets Mayhem, I immediately dropped him a line to congratulate him and, of course, to make sure that he didn’t forget me when the time came to promote the hell out of the show.

He didn’t. So here we are.

As I mention in the video, I had the opportunity to watch all 10 episodes of the show’s first—and, God willing, not its last—season, and I absolutely loved it. Of course the music fan in me enjoyed it, but it’s the Muppets fan in me that really dug it. It’s fun, it’s funny, and most of all, it’s got a lot of heart. I don’t think I actually said as much in the conversation with Adam and his co-creators / co-executive producers, Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes, but it’s the best Muppets project I’ve seen since 2011’s The Muppets, a.k.a. the one with Jason Segel and Amy Adams.

If you haven’t checked out the trailer for The Muppets Mayhem, watch it now. By the end of it, you should be as jazzed to see it as I was.
