Something Streaming This Way Comes: "Flying Saucers Over Hollywood - The 'Plan 9' Companion"
If you’ve ever seen Ed Wood, then you have a pretty good idea about the infamous film known as Plan 9 from Outer Space, although the odds are probably about 50/50 that those who saw the former had already seen the latter. Still, seeing the making of the film unfold in a bio-pic just isn’t the same as seeing the actual thing…and I can now testify that you really haven’t seen it all until you’ve seen the documentary Flying Saucers Over Hollywood - The ‘Plan 9 ‘ Companion.
Directed by the late Mark Patrick Carducci, this 111-minute doc will provide you will pretty much anything you could ever hope to learn about Plan 9 from Outer Space, including interviews with a staggering number of cast members from the film. I can’t believe it’s not out there for streaming in any official capacity - if it was, I’d obviously steer you there instead - but since someone has uploaded it to YouTube, I highly recommend it.
Yes, it’s long, particularly when you consider that the film it’s honoring only ran for 79 minutes to begin with, but if you cared enough to watch Plan 9 or even just Ed Wood, then you really owe it to yourself to give it a look.
