Upcoming "Letting Them Talk" guest: comics legend and bigtime Squeeze fan Mike Carlin
When I first started looking for possible guests for this podcast, I knew I wanted to make the most of the opportunity to not have to gear the guests toward any specific profession, but I also knew that it would be a good excuse to get people to talk about topics that they don’t necessarily get to talk about in their day-to-day activities. That’s why in an upcoming episode you’ll hear political historian Kevin M. Kruse talking about his favorite films, TV series, and musical artists. It’s also why, when I saw comics legend Mike Carlin post yesterday about the passing of Squeeze drummer Gilson Lavis and note that he’d seen Gilson perform live more than any other drummer, I thought, “Oh, here’s a perfect way to invite him on the podcast that doesn’t necessarily have to be about comics…”
So, by God, we’re going to talk about Mike Carlin’s love of Squeeze.
Oh, sure, we’re going to talk about other things as well. There will definitely be some comics-related conversation happening, because if nothing else, I’ve told him that we definitely need to discuss this issue, which he wrote:
And when I told him that we needed to discuss it, he countered by saying that we’d have to talk about this comic as well, which is also a Mike Carlin joint:
But in addition to these two things - and, because I’m a Trekkie, I’ll obviously have to ask him about writing for the TOS and TNG comics - I wanted to reach out to the comic nerds amongst my readership and see if there’s anything from his back catalog that you’d like me to ask him about. It’s not hard to Google and find a list of the projects he’s worked on over the years, and he’s already said he’s up for answering whatever questions you’ve got (although he did admit that it’s hard to imagine that anyone has any questions about “The Death of Superman” that he hasn’t already been asked at some point, but please don’t treat that as a challenge).
Anyway, the interview is happening on Wednesday, so you’ve got a few days to mull it over and offer up your questions!

Interest at the intersection of Mike/Squeeze is piqued! Would love to know his gateway to the band and what Gilson Lavis fave tracks he puts at the top... and I will absolutely hold him in the highest esteem if he names anything off Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti!
